Nearly 30% of smart homes in the US, UK, Germany and France have surveillance cameras

According to the latest research report “Smart Home Survey – Surveillance Cameras” by Strategy Analytics, almost one-third of households with smart homes in the US, UK, Germany and France have surveillance cameras.

Strategy Analytics reports that surveillance cameras are the second most popular smart home device overall. In the US, UK and Germany, surveillance cameras are second only to smart thermostats in popularity. In France, surveillance cameras are more popular than smart thermostats. Additionally, 60% of smart home households in these countries have an average of at least one surveillance camera installed.

In the Strategy Analytics survey, the most frequently cited surveillance camera brands by consumers in four countries were Nest, Amazon (Blink and Ring) and Arlo. In the US, ADT and Vivint rounded out the top five most frequently mentioned surveillance camera brands. In the UK, Hive cameras from Centrica Connected Home are more popular than Nest and Arlo. The German and French brand landscapes are similar in diversity, with consumers mentioning many smaller Chinese and European regional brands with the same frequency as Nest, Arlo and Amazon.

Jack Narcotta, Senior Industry Analyst, Strategy Analytics’ Smart Home Strategies Advisory Service, said: “Despite consumer concerns about privacy and hacking, surveillance cameras have found their way into millions of smart homes, suggesting that for many consumers , which does more than good. The popularity of surveillance cameras with consumers depends more on the capabilities of the device and less on the software capabilities or hardware components that the device is equipped with.
